Mr. Markel was such a huge help to my son Matthew. He was so flexible with his time and accommodated a busy teenage schedule. Both our daughters went to Rick for very different purposes.  Our oldest was looking into graduate school and needed to register for the Graduate Record Exam (GRE).  Being an English major, she had not taken a math class in four years.  She realized she needed to review some fundamental math concepts and contacted Rick.  He was able to meet with her on her schedule and they spent the majority of time on GRE math principles.  She took the exam and immediately received her scores.  The quantitative score was in the range that engineering students usually receive!  She has now applied to several graduate schools and her GRE scores will hopefully help her land grant and fellowship offers.

Our youngest daughter went to see Rick after her first attempts at the SAT and the ACT.  While her scores were good and illustrated her strength in math, we felt she needed to improve her verbal scores.  Rick was flexible enough to work with her on her schedule. They spent 4 sessions on the reading section of the ACT before she sat for the exam.  They then spent 4 sessions on the critical reading section of the SAT and she recently completed that exam.  For both tests, her scores improved significantly.  Her critical reading score on the SAT went up 120 points!  She is now competitive enough to apply to highly selective colleges and universities, and should receive substantial scholarship offers. 

Rick did a wonderful job in working with both our daughters.  His availability and flexibility were key in getting them the help they needed.  He helped them both work through their weaknesses and gave them the confidence needed to succeed on the exams.  We believe that the time and cost involved in taking his individualized test preparation sessions will reap many rewards for our girls.  Thank you, Rick, from all of us.
